COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF MAY 22,1998 PSA#2101U.S. ARMY SOLDIER SYSTEMS COMMAND, ACQUISITION CENTER, AMSSC-AD,
NATICK, MA 01760-5011 42 -- SOLE SOURCE: LINE CHARGES FOR TEST UNDER MILITARY OPERATIONS
URBAN TERRAIN -- ADVANCED CONCEPT TECHNOLOGY DEMONSTRATION (MOUT --
ACTD) SOL W13G07-8120-6001 POC Contract Specialist JEFFREY BALDWIN
(508) 233-5920 (Site Code DAAN02) SOLE SOURCE -- The U.S. Army Soldier
System Command (SSCOM) has a requirement to further evaluate a
specific type of mine detection and clearing device as a part of the
Military Operations in Urban Terrain (MOUT) excursion for Rapid Force
Projection Insertion (RFPI) Advanced Concept Technology Demonstration.
This particular item is called the Man Portable Line Charge System.
The product is sold by Ensign-Bickford Company (660 Hopmeadow Street
Simsbury, CT 06070). The system can detect and detonate mines both at
the surface (trip wire types and others) and sub-surface (pressure
sensitive) levels of an area. This item is unique because it is the
only known man-portable (one man can carry it) device that can be
implemented from a safe distance/under cover away mines and instantly
(once fired from safe position) detect and detonate mines on the
surface of the ground and sub-surface (pressure sensitive) mines. The
system is lighter than conventional systems and is most effective in
that it clears an areaapproximately 1 meter around the landing point.
The Dismounted Battlespace Battle Lab (DBBL) at Ft.Benning will
integrate these items into a July 98 MOUT/RFPI ACTD excursion in order
to get more visibility and input from potential users. DBBL will also
experiment with these to identify/verify the system capabilities and
to look at other issues under the previous MOUT ACTD experiments.
Additional information about the MOUT program requirements can be found
at the MOUT website, yorktown.dc.isx.com/mout/index.html. Anyone
