LaPrad, (540) 983-1084 The VA Medical Center, Salem, VA intends to negotiate a sole source acquisition with Alcon Surgical for a phacoemulsification machine. This machine must have the capability to provide phacoemulsification, irrigation/aspiration and anterior vitrectomy and must also have the capability to be upgraded, offer continuous irrigation and outflow and have footpedal control. The solicitation will be available o/a 6/1/98 and will be due by COB 6/25/98. Written requests must be faxed to the attention of the Contracting Officer (90C) at (540) 983-1065. This procurement is considered unique and complex in nature. Therefore there is a reasonable basis to conclude that the supplies/services required are only available from this source with the unique capabilities and no other type of supplies/services will satisfy agency requirements.
