Shoe, Contract Specialist, (404) 842-6636 The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is planning to make award of a contract to develop evaluation plans and protocols for diabetes among children. The ultimate purpose of the evaluation plans would (1) measure current prevalence of type 2 diabetes among children, using methods that accurately distinguish between type 1 and type 2 diabetes, (2) assess factors associated with type 2 diabetes (e.g., obesity, cardiovascular risk factors), so that effective intervention and early detection of type 2 diabetes can be developed, and (3) assess the consequences (i.e., cardiovascular disease, quality of life, health service utilization, social problems, costs, etc.) of type 2 diabetes among children. The period of performance will be 12 months. NOTE: This contract is only for the development of evaluation plans and not for the conduct of the actual evaluation. The Contractor that develops evaluation plans will not be eligible to participate in the implementation of the evaluation plans because of conflict of interest issues, FAR part 9.
