COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF MAY 29,1998 PSA#2105FOOD AND WATER PROCESS SECURITY AGAINST PATHOGENS Special Notice:
Sources Sought to identify INDUSTRY, ACADEMIA or NATIONAL LABORATORIES
that have ongoing projects or research and/or product development FOR
THE DETECTION, IDENTIFICATION AND QUANTIFICATION OF FOOD-BORNE OR
WATER-BORNE PATHOGENS, EITHER NATURALLY OCCURING OR INTENTIONALLY
INTRODUCED, OR FOR NEW APROACHES TO FOOD OR WATER PROCESS SECURITY. The
United States Air Force Force Protection Battlelab (USAF FPB) is a new
organization whose goal is to rethink current Air Force protection
practices in light of threat, develop new concepts of operation, and
resulting implications for organizing, training, and equipping for the
broad area of force protection. The USAF Force Protection Battlelab is
currently undertaking an initiative to study the processes of
procurement, preparation, and delivery of food and water to our airmen
with the goal of addressing vulnerabilities and providing corrective
options aimed at ensuring the safety of that food and water. Solution
information should be applicable toboth U.S. and overseas locations and
should emphasize cost-effective process changes, and reliable, simple
to operate technology. The FPB is interested in responses that help
ensure the security of our food from the source all the way through the
final preparation and delivery. Responses can address a specific area
or the whole process. If your orgaization has an idea or product it is
interested in submitting to help us better address this issue, please
submit your information to the FPB no later than 9 Jun 98. Mature
research currently being pursued can be used as a foundation for
defense applications. Interested parties should respond to this
"sources sought" by transmitting a hard copy single page quad chart
which depicts 1) a schematic drawing or photograph if addressing a
technological solution, 2) a summary of the approach (technical or
conceptual), 3) the operational capability, and 4) a rough order of
magnitude, and a second page to aid our understanding specifically
detailing how this piece of equipment, concept or process would be
applied to help with this problem. Only written communications will be
accepted and should be addressed to the point of contact. Please note:
There is no firm requirement for this and procurement funds are not
available. This action has no relationship to any formal solicitation.
No solicitation will be issued at this time. Participation in this
effort is strictly voluntary with no cost or obligation to be incurred
