Mitchell, 520-527-3540 This modification adds characteristics of design
to RFQ-R3-04-98-14 as follows: (vi) These characteristics are based on
the "CAPSTONE" as designed and fabricated by STEADFAST BRIDGES, Fort
Payne, AL. These characteristics are used to establish "or equal"
criteria. WIDTH -- Inside clear width -- -6 feet; SPAN -- Center to
center of bearing -- -130 feet, no part of the superstructure to extend
below a straight line drawn from abutment to abutment; PIECES -- Bridge
to be delivered in three sections of approximately equal length; CAMBER
-- Cambered to offset dead load and appear flat; Load -- Evenly
distributed live load of 85 psf; WIND -- Minimun of 30 psf (approx. 120
mph); TEMPERATURE -- Accommodate a temperature differential of 120
degrees F; DEFLECTION -- Vertical deflection due to pedestrian live
load shall not exceed 1/400th of span length; MATERIALS -- Sturctural
metal to unpainted weathering steel in accordance with ASTM A242 or
ASTM A588 steel for plates and structural shapes and ASTM A606 or ASYM
A847 for tubular sections. Minimum yield (Fy) shall be greater than
50,000 psi, Structural members to have minimum thickness of 3/16", Wood
decking to be transverse to bridge longitudinal axis and be No. 1 grade
Southern Yellow Pine or equal. Wood shall be treated to a minimum of
0.40 lbs. of CCA preservative per cubic foot of wood. Planks to be
2"x10" nominal. Filed splices to be bolted with high Strength ASTM A325
bolts, type 3 for weathering steel.; FABRICATION -- Bridge Fabrictor
shall be certified by the American Institute of Steel Construction. All
workmanship to be in accordance with AASHTO. Welding operators shall be
properly accredited and experienced. All welding shall utilize E70 or
E80 series electrodes. The weld process used shall be Flux Core Arc
Welding (FCAW) or Shielded Manual Arc Welding (SMAW).; RAILINGS -- All
railing shall meet the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities
Act. Railing size -- 1 1/4" to 1 1/2", Wall to rail space -- 11/2",
Railing alcove depth (max) -- 3", Railing alcove height (max) 18",
Railing height -- 34" to 38"; Handrails must be nonabrasive. Ends of
handrails must be rounded or must return to a wall or post. Handrails
must extend past the maximum grade segments of stairs at all landings.
Handrails must be continuous. Handrails must not rotate in their
fittings. DRAWINGS -- Successful bidder to supply the government two
