BATTERIES: USACECOM is currently developing a strategy for introducing the nonrechargeable lithium manganese dioxide(Li/MnO2) battery technology into the Army inventory in the most cost effective and rapid method possible. The goal is to replace all the lithium sulfur dioxide batteries currently in use beginning with the BA-5590 configuration. The preferred cell for the Li/MnO2 battery is the "pouch"" for all applications where applicable. All Li/MnO2 batteries will be expected to exceed the performance for a given battery configuration as stated in MIL-PRF-49471 and the associated slash sheets and statements of work. The USACECOM is seeking (1) companies who are interested in developing and producing LiMnO2 batteries for USACECOM,(2) identification of the technical and production obstacles as perceived by industry to be overcome before these batteries can be safely and cost effectively intrduced into the inventory, (3) identification of the magnitude of the potential commercial application of this technology. This notice is not a request for proposals. Organizations may express their interest in writing no later than 10 working days after publication of this announcement. This response should include a brief description of their abilities to design and build such battery(ies) along with their willingness to provide input into the development of this strategy.
