COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF JUNE 2,1998 PSA#2107THE WORLDWIDE CHEMICAL CONFERENCE & EXHIBITION XVI Current and Future
Nuclear-Biological-Chemical Threat is Major Topic at Army/NDIA
Conference The United States Army Chemical School, in conjunction with
the National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA), will host
"Worldwide Chemical Conference XVI: NBC Force Protection-Full Spectrum
Support" on June 23-25, 1998 at Fort McClellan, Alabama. The
conference is designed to provide all interested persons from
government, industry, and academia a forum for the interchange of ideas
related to the protection of our forces and our nation from the effects
of nuclear, biological and chemical (NBC) weapons. Due to a continuing
proliferation of non-traditional NBC threats to our military forces,
as well as the general population, the conference will focus on the
measures needed to provide force protection during the full spectrum of
operations in which our soldiers, sailors, Marines and airmen may
become involved. The event will offer a unique opportunity for industry
to receive first-hand information on the programs and initiatives that
are currently underway in this growing field. Correspondingly, it also
provides U.S. and allied military forces a chance to confer with the
firms and individuals involved in the NBC defense industrial base.
Addressing the conference will be Mr. Walter L. Busbee, Deputy
Assistant Secretary of Defense for Counterproliferation and Chemical
and Biological Defense; Major General George Friel, USA, Commander,
Chemical and Biological Defense Command; and Colonel William Miller,
USA (Retired), U.S. Arms Control and Disarmament Agency. Topics to be
addressed by panelists throughout the three-day period include
development of individual and Collective Chemical-Biological protection
programs, Unified Command requirements in respective Areas of
Operations relating to the NBC threat, mitigating the effects of
chemical weapons through training and indoctrination, and the Anthrax
Vaccination Program and its tracking system. Panelists come from
numerous military commands, government agencies and organizations such
as the Army's Technical Escort Unit from Aberdeen, MD, Department of
Justice, European and Pacific Commands, and the U.S. Natick Research,
Development and Evaluation Center. Classification level of the
Worldwide Chemical Conference XVI, will be UNCLASSIFIED-FOREIGN
