COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF JUNE 3,1998 PSA#2108NOAA/Systems Acquisition Office (SAO), 1315 E. W. Highway, Mail Code
SAOX2, Silver Spring, MD 20910 66 -- SUNSHINE DURATION SENSOR SOL 52-SPNA-8-00020 DUE 071598 POC
Thomas D. Genovese, Jr., Contracting Officer, 301-713-2110 The NOAA
Automated Surface Observing System (ASOS) program has a requirement to
replace obsolete sunshine sensors at approximately 142 locations
nationwide. The replacement sunshine sensors must be capable of
measuring, displaying and reporting (via RS-232) the total daily
accumulated minutes of sunshine per World Meteorological Organization
definition. A National Weather Service specification for the sunshine
duration sensor has been provided to offerors who requested same.
Comments against this specification have been received and are being
considered for incorporation into the revised specification to be
issued with the RFP. The Government expects to purchase a small number
of existing Commercial sensors which can meet the NWS sensor
specification with minimal development effort, and which can be easily
modified for integration into the ASOS sensor suite. The Government
intends to test these Commercial sensors, and to include test results
as part of the evaluation criteria. This announcement provides
information regarding the pending RFP for the sunshine duration sensor.
The RFP will be released on or about June 15, 1998 with proposals due
July 15, 1998. The Government reserves the right to enter into
one-on-one discussions with candidate sensor vendors prior to issuance
of the RFP package. The RFP package will provide a succinct
description of what is sought and information on the evaluation
criteria. The Government will procure two each of the candidate sensors
for immediate delivery. Interested parties should send the sensor
descriptive package as soon as possible to Annette E. Stevens, 1325
