(505) 665-6202, e-mail: mpierotti@lanl.gov. The University of
California, which operates the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL)
under contract to the Department of Energy (DOE), is seeking
expressions of interest from High Technology Research and Development
Corporations to support Los Alamos in the design and fabrication of a
Linear Accelerator. The Laboratory plans to issue on or about July 10,
1998 a RFP for an Industrial Support Subcontractor (ISC) to assist
with the design of a linear accelerator for the Spallation Neutron
Source (SNS) project. The Laboratory may also exercise options for the
ISC to procure, fabricate and/or install the accelerator or portions
thereof. The SNS project consists of the construction of a world-class
center for research using neutrons, planned to be located at Oak
Ridge, Tennessee. LANL is responsible for the linear accelerator
(linac) capable of delivering a pulsed 1-MW proton beam. The total
projected cost for the linac is greater than $300,000,000.00. Technical
support to be provided by the ISC includes but is not limited to
engineering design and analysis, requirements definitions, systems
engineering, materials engineering, systems design support, project
management, and reporting and documentation support. OPTIONS may be
exercised for the ISC to procure material; set-up production
facilities; fabricate components; integrate and assemble sub-systems;
and provide warehousing services, transportation services, testing
services, and installation support. A task order contract is planned,
with a period of performance from October 1998 to September 2005.
