martinez_della@lanl.gov. CATEGORY A. Design, fabrication, and
evaluation of special logging tools, downhole drilling instrumentation,
and borehole instrumentation packages for rock mass characterization
that are not commercially available. Included are data acquisition,
processing, and interpretation of telemetry from various
instrumentation packages. Of particular importance are all aspects of
borehole seismic technology, including logging tools and
instrumentation packages used in passive monitoring of reservoir and
hydraulic fracture microseismicity, vertical seismic profiling,
formation velocity determinations, and 4-D seismic and crosswell
seismic applications. Design of lookahead measurement-while-drilling
(MWD) packages and instrumentation to support advanced drilling concept
research may also be required. Knowledge is required of the
state-of-the-art of seismic sensors, including geophones,
accelerometers, and hydrophones; analogue-to-digital conversion
relevant to wireline telemetry; high temperature electronics; and
commercially available data acquisition systems. CATEGORY B. Assistance
with the field deployment of Los Alamos logging and instrumentation
packages for (i) the purpose of evaluating their performance in
applications importance to the petroleum and geothermal industries, and
for (ii) support of the research objectives of field experiments
involving Los Alamos technologies. Monitoring of the performance and
telemetry of instrumentation packages may extend from weeks to months
in reservoir production studies. Included is the insertion of logging
tools and instrumentation packages into deep high pressure, high
temperature wells. CATEGORY C. Provision for diagnostic logs run to
determine well and formation conditions at the FHWTF and at remote
sites around the United States. Included are well completion logs and
logs useful for characterization of fractured reservoirs. (0152) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0016 19980603\B-0007.SOL)
