Frascella, via internet:kfrascella@usaid.gov, Tel: (202)712-5977, Fax (202)216-3052 The United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Bureau for Global Programs, Field Support and Research, Center for Population, Health and Nutrition (PHN Center) seeks an organization interested in providing global leadership to increase the use in developing countries of appropriate health and nutrition practices and services which reduce maternal and neonatal mortality and morbidity. USAID anticipates the award of a five year $60,000,000 Maternal and Neonatal Health and Nutrition Cooperative Agreement" under its Maternal and Neonatal Health and Nutrition Results Package. This program is oriented to women of childbearing age, particularly during pregnancy, delivery and postpartum, and the newborn in the first seven days of life. The program is expected to reduce maternal and neonatal mortality and improve health and nutrition status through: evidence-based, effective antenatal care interventions; protection of normal birth in homes and health care facilities; timely, effective postpartum care; and early recognition and management of life-threatening maternal and neonatal complications. This award will be based on a full and open competition. The Request for Applications (RFA), when issued, will provide the final information on the closing date. USAID intends to release the RFA on or about June 15, 1998 via the internet with complete and comprehensive program description, requirements for applicants and the evaluation criteria for this competitive process.
