http://heron.nrl.navy.mil/contracts/home.htm. This is an amendment to
a combined synopsis/solicitation for commercial items prepared in
accordance with the format in Federal Acquisition Regulation Subpart
12.6, and issued on 12 May 1998. This announcement constitutes an
amendment to solicitation, N00173-98-R-JR07, for a Soft X-ray Detector
with Energy Discrimination. This amendment is issued to provide a
response to questions submitted against the synopsis/solicitation.
Question (1): Please provide further clarification on the Cu support
with parylene as requested in part (iv) if the solicitation. Is this a
commercially available product that can be identified by the end-user?
Response: To the Technical Representative's knowledge, this item is not
commercially available product because it depends on the construction
of the detector housing and detector retraction mechanism. Question
(2): Is the Cu support a grid pattern or a solid structure? Response:
The Cu support is envisioned to be a Cu mesh to maximize soft x-ray
transmission while maintaining window integrity during detector
operation and chamber venting. Question (2): Please clarify the
placement of the parylene window. Response: The vacuum barrier window
is placed between the detector elements and the sample position and
serves to maintain a vacuum differential between the detector elements
and the sample chamber. In this way, an ultra high vacuum environment
for the detector elements can be maintained even if the sample chamber
vacuum is not ideal (during sample transfer, sample cleaning, etc.).
Any questions generated, as a result of this solicitation must be
received no later than 10 days before the closing date. Original and
two (2) copies of the Offerors proposal must be delivered to Contract
