The National Cancer Institute(NCI), Division of Clinical Sciences,
Medicine Branch proposes to procure the services of a molecular
biologist, Jana Bodorova, 443 Coll Parkway, Rockville, Md. 20850. These
services are needed for a Study of Immunodeficiency in Cancer.
Background: The Section of Transplantation Therapy is involved in a
broad, collaborative study of the immunodeficiency associated with
cancer and its treatment. The study seeks to characterize selected
aspects of immunodeficiency both by direct studies and by building a
broad collaborative effort. The goal is to characterized selected
components of immunodeficiency associated with cancer and cancer
therapy. Specifically, the selected components of immunodeficiency and
their respective aims are: 1) Deficits of T cell and NK cell
populations -- to investigate the biology of their generation,
function, and death and 2) Application of high through-put chip
technology to enhance investigations to allow multi-parameter analysis.
Requirements: This research requires the services of a molecular
biologist with expertise and experience in cell manipulation and
molecular biology for the analysis of T cell and NK regeneration
following chemotherapy and in the application of chip technology to
study the immunodeficiency associated with cancer therapy. Development
of chip technology and data collection and analysis are essential to
these studies. Likewise, the molecular biologist shall 1) process cell
and serum samples from the patient study; 2) prepare T cell
populations from PBL; 3) coordinate distribution of cell and serum
samples to multiple collaborating investigators; 4) characterize cell
populations by FACS analysis; 5) characterized gene constructs intended
for transfection of T cells and NK cells in studies of regeneration; 6)
establish conditions for high transfection efficiency in T and NK cell
populations; 7) carry out DNA sequencing in support of transfection
studies; 8) develop alternative cell marking approaches; 9) study cell
surface molecules by immunoprecipitation and western blotting; 10)
investigate gene expression by RT-PCR; 11) apply chip technology for
the study of immunodeficiency, including review and selection of genes
of interest; and 12) establish and work with individuals involved with
technology, preparation of cells for analysis, carring out analysis,
and interpreting analysis. This notice is a combined
synopsis/solicitation and NCI does not intend to issue a separate
solicitation. This solicitation, RFQ-NCI-80143, is set-aside for small
business with a Standard Industrial Classification Code of 8733. Jana
Bodorova is the only source know to NCI that can meet these
requirements. However, if any interested party believes it can meet the
above specification, it may submit a statement of capabilities.
Information furnished must be in writing and must contain material in
sufficient detail to allow NCI to determine if the party can perform
the requirement. Capability statements must be received in the
contracting office within 15 days(06/19/98) after the publication date
of this notice. A determiniation by the government not to compete this
proposed contract based upon responses to this notice is solely within
the discretion of the government. Information received will be
considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a
competitive procurement. (0154) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0009 19980605\A-0009.SOL)
