Professional services are requested as Course Coordinator for the Asia
Advanced Area Studies course. Courses are held at the Foreign Service
Institute, 4000 Arlington Boulevard, Arlington, VA 22204. The Mainland
Southeast Asia Advanced Studies course is organized and conducted by
the Course Coordinator who also brings in area experts from
Universities, Government and Private organizations. The seminar
combines lectures, discussions, participatory activities by class
members, readings, and audio-visual materials in order to highlight the
key historical, political, economic, and socio-cultural themes for the
region as well as American interests interests and policy issues in
Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and Burma. The Advanced Area Studies
courses within the Foreign Service Institute's School of Professional
and Area Studies offer country-specificity and are closely related to
concurrent language training. Generally meeting for the duration of
the language course, area studies are designed to teachpeople how to
communicate in the countries and cultures to which they are assigned.
