COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF JUNE 10,1998 PSA#2113Department of Army, New England District, Corps of Engineers, 696
Virginia Road, Concord, Massachusetts 01742-2751 Z -- PAINTING OF THE SAGAMORE HIGHWAY BRIDGE, CAPE COD CANAL, BOURNE,
MA SOL DACW33-98-B-0014 DUE 080498 POC Carol Husselbee, 978-318-8420
E-MAIL: Procurement Technician, Carol.K.Husselbee@usace.army.mil. The
work of this project consists of blast clenaing and painting the entire
steel superstructure of the Sagamore Bridge, including approach spans
and appurtenances. Brush-off blast cleaning will be used as the overall
cleaning method with commercial grade blast cleaning used selectively
in heavily corroded areas. A cleaning survey will be performed to
identify the heavily corroded paint failure areas. Less than 10 percent
of the bridge surface will require commercial grade blast cleaning. An
alkyd metal prime and intermediate coat, topped with an aluminum
finish coat will be applied to bare metal surfaces exposed by the
cleaning operation. Then, a finish coat of aluminum paint will be
applied to the entire structure. The bridge is a continuous truss type
structure coprised of apparoximately 5,000 tons of steel and is
1,408feet long and 51 feet wide. At midspan the lowest portion of the
bridge structure is 135 feet above mean high water. The existing paint
on the bridge includes red lead primer. Therefore, tight control over
dust and lead emissions will be instituted during blast cleanng to
minimize the impact on the environment. Level 2 containment per Steel
Structures Painting Council Guide 6 (Con)(1995) is essentially full
containment and will be accomplished in this project. Air monitoring
will also be performed as a further safeguard. The estimated cost range
is between $1,000,000.00 and $5,000,000.00. Work shall be completed
within 420 calendar days after receipt of a Notice to Proceed. Plans
and Specifications will be available on or about 6/30/98 at a cost of
$30.00 per set. All responsible sources may submit a bid which will be
considered by the New England District. (0159) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0114 19980610\Z-0001.SOL)
