M -- NOTICE OF INTENTION TO OPERATE A CRAFT SHOP WITHIN NORTH CASCADES NATIONAL PARK POC Pat Young. The National Park Service is seeking a concession permit operator for the small craft shop. "The House That Jack Built", located in Stehekin at the head of 55-mile long lake Chelan in Washington state. The shop sells a variety of handmade items and artwork produced by Stehekin Valley residents; all items must be approved by the Superintendent. Demonstrations of folk art and handcrafts are encouraged. Dates of operation are May through October with possible limited winter operation. Access to Stehekin is limited to commercial boat ferry, private boat, floatplane or by foot. The towns of Chelan and Manson are 55 miles down lake, and they provide all necessary community facilities and services. Government-owned housing is not available at Stehekin. In view of the limited scope of this operation, it is felt that 45 days notice is sufficient for applicants to respond to the application contained in the prospectus. Therefore, applications must be received at the above address no later than 4:00 p.m., July 30, 1998. McGregor Mountain Outdoor Supply shop sells outdoor recreation equipment and supplies, recreational and trail books and guides, maps, clothing including mass-produced T-shirts, fishing tackle and bait, trail snacks and pre-packaged food, and freeze-dried or vacuum-sealed meals. Some outdoor equipment is available to rent. The shop also sells outdoor games, learning tools and aids, personal care items, film, postcards, stuffed animals, leather goods, and other merchandise that is determined to be in keeping with the character of Stehekin and the mission of the National Park Service.
