NASA/GSFC plans to issue a Request for Quotation (RFQ5-72861-926) on a sole source basis for renewal of maintenance on two Micro Vax II computer systems and peripherals for a period of one year. This procurement is being conducted under the Simplified Acquisition Procedures (SAP). NASA/GSFC intends to acquire these services from Tricom for the following reasons. Tricom has vast experience with the heritage design of this system and has been intimately involved in design changes over the past few years. This equipment is used for mission operations support for the GOES spacecraft during launch, post-launch testing, and the day-to-day commanding from the Satellite Operations Control Center, and is critical to mission success. For the above reasons, Tricom is considered to be uniquely qualified to provide this support, therefore it is in the Government's best interest to acquire these services from Tricom. The authority is 10 U.S.C. 2304(c)(1), Only One Responsible Source. The Government intends to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12. See Note 22. Interested firms have 15 days from the publication of this synopsis to submit in writing to the identified point of contact, their qualifications/capabilities. Responses received after the 15 days or without the required information will be considered nonresponsive to the synopsis and will not be considered. A determination by the Government to not compete this proposed effort on a full and open competitive basis, based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government.
