The Indian Head Division, Naval Surface Warfare Center has a sole source requirement for Special Devices Inc (SDI) for an electro-mechanical, low profile arm fire device (AFD) to replace the current mark 33 AFD in the Mark 104 Dual Thrust Rocket Motor. To meet the requirement, the AFD must be small and compact yet meet all requirements of the existing AFD. Special Devices Inc produces a miniature, electro-mechanical AFD. This miniature AFD was developed and patented by SDI. The requirement is for 12 EA electro-mechanical, low profile AFD (flight units, 8 EA electro-mechanical, low profile AFD development test units (non-flight units), 5 EA electro-mechanical, low profile AFD, inert (non-flight units), and 1 EA electro-mechanical, low profile AFD, inert, configured for HERO testing (non-flight unit).
