ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY LIGHT ARTILLERY SYSTEM (ATLAS) WHITE PAPER Advanced Technology Light Artillery System (ATLAS), formerly known as the Future Direct Support Weapon System (FDSWS). The United States Army Field Artillery School (USAFAS), Directorate of Combat Developments (DCD) is soliciting feedback and comments on the ATLAS White Paper. ATLAS is a replacement for the M119A1 and M102 howitzers that are direct support weapons for Active Component Light, Special Purpose Divisions and Light National Guard units. ATLAS will also replace the M198 weapons in direct Support of the 2d Armored Cavalry Regiment. The Army Acquisition Objective (AAO) is 628 systems. This announcement presents draft performance requirements. Industry and other government agencies are invided to submit unclassified comments addressing the technical soundness and realism of the requirements. Suggested modifications and tradeoffs are encouraged for requirements that are deemed unachievable or that offer significant cost and performance advantages. The objective of this announcement is to gather informantion that will aid in the generation of an Operational Requirements Document (ORD). The ORD will be available in a later publication of the Commerce Business Daily (CBD) and will announce a date for convening the Integrated Concept Team to make final corrections to the ORD. This revised document will be staffed worldwide and submitted to the Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) for approval. Recommended changes to the White Paper must include revised verbiage together with rationale for the recommended change. Suggested changes become the property of the USAFAS. In the event that a submission/suggestion is deemed competition sensitive by the submitter, it will be so annotated and will be considered proprietary information and treated accordingly by the recipient.
