COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF JUNE 15,1998 PSA#2116GENERAL VENTILATION AIR FILTER TESTING LABORATORY VERIFICATION The
Research Triangle Institute (RTI) and the U.S. Environmental Protection
Agency (EPA) under the Environmental Technology Verification (ETV)
Program have established a laboratory verification program for general
ventilation air filters. The goal of the ETV program is to verify the
environmental performance characteristics of commercial-ready
technologies through the evaluation of objective and quality assured
data so that potential puchasers and permitters are provided with an
independent and credible assessment of what they are buying and
permitting. RTI's program covers products used indoors, including the
measurement of particle size dependent efficiency for filters used for
general ventilation. The test protocol is based on the American
Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers
(ASHRAE) proposed standard 52.2, Method of Testing General Ventilation
Air-Cleaning Devices for Removal Efficiency by Particle Size. The
purpose of the general ventilation air filter testing laboratory
verification is to establish laboratory inter-comparability. Candidate
laboratories must have 1) all necessary test equipment; 2) completed
system qualification measurements requirements as specified by ASHRAE
52.2P test method; and 3) a quality management system. The verification
program will consist of testing up to nine filters during which an
onsite audit will be conducted. If you are interested in participating
or would like more information, contact Ms. Debbie Franke, by mail at
RTI, PO Box 12194, Research Triangle Park, NC 27709; by phone on (919)
