intends to award a cost type contract for the development of the
Long-term Mine Reconnaissance System (LMRS). One contract will be
awarded for the development of the LMRS. The competition will be
limited to the two contractors that were competitively awarded LMRS
Detailed Design Contracts in October 1997. The two contractors are:
Northrop Grumman Corporation, Annapolis, MD, and Boeing North American,
Anaheim, CA. The competition is limited to these contractors since the
development will be based on their Detailed Design. This Navy
acquisition strategy was briefed to industry during the initial
competition in FY96. The request for proposal will be released to the
two competitors on or about 3 August 1999 with an anticipated contract
