Resource Service Administration/HHS is responsible for the
implementation and operation of the National Practitioner Data Bank
(NPDB). Title IV of Public Law 99-660, The Health Care Quality
Improvement Act of 1986, created the NPDB to collect and release
certain information related to the professional competence and
professional conduct of physicians, dentists, and other health care
practitioners. The current contract 213-94-0004, which (re)designed,
implemented, operates and maintains the NPDB, was awarded July 1994 and
is scheduled to expire June 2000. The Government requests industry to
provide comment on the SOW for the next generation contract for support
of the NPDB, entitled Quality Assurance Data Systems (QADS) Third
Generation. This is not a Request for Proposal. A synopsis similar to
this shall be published prior to the release of the RFP. Firms may
