COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF JUNE 18,1998 PSA#2119NOAA/Systems Acquisition Office (SAO), 1315 E. W. Highway, Mail Code
SAOX2, Silver Spring, MD 20910 A -- OPTIMATION STUDIES FOR AN INTERFEROMETER-BASED THERMAL SOUNDER
(CRLS) SOL 50-SPNA-8-00028 POC Donald L. Kraus, Contacting Officer 301
427-2084 x136 E-MAIL: Don Kraus, dkraus@ipo.noaa.gov. The NOAA,
Integrated Program Office (IPO ) requires the continuation of work by
Utah State University (USU) in Logan, Utah, utilizing the beamsplitter
deformation and vibration evaluation model and associated test
hardware, developed by USU, to support the Optimational studies for an
interferometer-based thermal sounder (CrIS) by demonstrating that a
vibration tolerant mounting system can be developed to support a KBr
beamsplitter with little increase in aperture. This continuation of
work is required to demonstrate the vibrational stability of the
improved mounting strategy of instruments with up to 10 cm diameter
aperture KBr beamsplitters to withstand normal, 12 g, launch vibrations
while retaining the required flatness specification for all four
surfaces. These follow-on studies, expected to comprise a one year
contract with two option years for additional related studies,
represent an extension of the above-mentioned work. The USU is the one
responsible source which is capable of verifying the performance and
provide assessment of assimilated data. Based on USU's unique
capability, the depth of its experience, laboratory facilities, unique
staff capability, and the refined instruments it has developed for
this test, USU is the single source which is capable of supporting this
requirement for the IPO, IAW 41 U.S.C 253(c)(1). Any party desiring
consideration must identify its full capability in writing to the
Contracting Officer within 15 days of this publication. No RFP or
solicitation is available. No further CBD notice is planned. POC:
