The Naval Research Laboratory has a requirement for custom-fabricated arrays of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) probes which will initially be deposited onto plain silicon chips. NRL scientists will observe the magnetic label by optical microscopy and work with vendor to optimize the DNA modified surfaces. Later, the vendor will deposit arrays of probe DNA on semiconductor devices provided by NRL, which will be capable of detecting the magnetic label directly.
