66 -- STRIP CHART RECORDERS (GOULD EQUIPMENT UPGRADE) SOL RQ98-028 DUE 070298 POC Brenda Goodwin, 304/285-5882/Contracting Officer, Rex S. Wolfe, 304/285-5883 The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) in Morgantown, WV has a requirement to purchase the following strip chart recorders manufactured by Gould Instrument Systems, Inc.: 2 Each of Model REC 3800 Ink Port Stand Alone; 2 Each of Model MP CASE 5900 Portable; and 1 Each of Model REC 3400 4CH Ink Port. This equipment is used by NIOSH for measuring responses of airway smooth muscle in in-vitro experiments. Transducers attached to the preparations detect contractile responses, and the output from the transducer is sent to Gould preamplifiers for conditioning. The signal from the preamplifiers is then stepped up and the output is sent to the Gould recorder which displays the response as a continuous line on a strip chart recorder. Approximately 20 existing Gould 4600 and 5600 Series signal conditioners (preamplifiers) presently in use at NIOSH are still functional and do not need replacing. The Government does not intend to replace the entire system, but rather to replace only the recorder part of the apparatus. It is believed that there is only one source for strip chart recorders that are compatible with the Gould preamplifiers. If there are other sources capable of providing upgrades to the Gould recorder components that will perform accurately with the existing preamplifieders, they are invited to submit appropriate documentation, literature and references to Brenda L. If no organizations respond and demonstrate their capabilities within ten (10) days after posting of this notice, the Government intends to negotiate on a sole source basis with Gould Instrument Systems Inc., Valley View, Ohio.
