SOURCES SOUGHT FOR METHODS OF DETECTING PATHOGEN/SOURCES TOXIN FOOD CONTAMINATION SOURCES SOUGHT TO IDENTIFY INDUSTRY, ACADEMIA OR NATIONAL LABORATORIES THAT HAVE ONGOING PROJECTS OR RESEARCH AND/OR PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT FOR THE DETECTION, IDENTIFICATION AND QUANTIFICATION OF FOOD BORNE OR WATER BORNE PATHOGENS OR TOXINS- OR NEW APPROACHES TO THE SECURITY OF THE SELECTION, TRANSPORTATION AND HANDLING OF FOOD OR WATER. PLACE EMPASIS ON INTENTIONAL CONTAMINATION. The United States Air Force- Force Protection Battlelab (USAF FPB) is a new organization whose goal is to rethink current Air Force force protection practices in light of threat, develop new concepts of operation, and resulting implications for organizing, training, and equipping for the broad area of force protection. The USAF Force Protection Battlelab is currently undertaking an initiative to sudy the processes of procurement, preparation, and delivery of food and water to our airmen with the goal of addressing possible vulnerabilities to intentional contamination and providing corrective options aimed at ensuring the safetyof that food and water. Solution information should be applicable to both U.S. and overseas locations and should emphsize cost-effective process changes, and reliable, simple to operate technology. The FPB is interested in responses that help ensure the secuity of our food and water from the source all the way through final preparation and delivery. Responses can address a specific area or the whole process. If your organization has an idea or product it is interested in submitting to help us better address this issue, please submit your information to the FPB no later than 15 July 98. Mature research currently being pursued can be used as a foundation for defense applications. Interested parties should respond to this "sources sought" by transmitting a hard copy single page quad chart which depicts 1) a schematic drawing or photograph if addressing a technological solution, 2) a summary of the approach (technical or conceptual), 3) the operational capability, and 4) a rough order of magnitude, and a second page to aid our understanding specifically detailing how this piece of equipment, concept or process would be applied to help with this problem. Only written communications will be accepted and should be addressed to the point of contact. Please note: There is no firm requirement for this and procurment funds are not available. This action has no relationship to any formal solicitation. No solicitation will be issued at this time. Participation in this effort is stictly voluntary with no cost or obligation to be incurred by the government. The government will in no way be obligated to purchase all or any part of the solution. All information obtained from this request shall be made available for competitive bidding purposes, should the need arise and if applicable.
