anticipates the issuance of a Draft Request for Proposals (DRFP) for
commercially produced automatic identification technologies, to include
bar code symbologies, card (i.e., integrated circuit chip, smart, flash
memory, storage, magnetic stripe, optical memory), voice and vision,
optical character recognition (OCR), direct/thermal/transfer and laser
printing, and radio frequency communications to support DOD and Coast
Guard. The equipment includes Data collection devices (i.e., portable,
pen-based, mobile, hand-held, fixed); scanners, wands, slot scanners,
wedges (i.e., bar codes, image, OCR, signature); voice recognition
devices; printers (i.e., laser, direct thermal, and thermal transfer);
encoders/readers for magnetic stripe cards, optical memory cards,
integrated circuit cards; contact and contactless cards, memory
buttons, and smart cards; communication devices (i.e., modems, radio
frequency networks, cellular). The equipment will provide a common base
lineof bar code equipment and micro-circuitry devices for both tactical
and non-tactical applications. Software includes development (compiler
languages, libraries, device drivers, application programming
interfaces (API), development tool kits), equipment operating systems,
radio frequency transaction management (RF engines), bar code label
and form generation, and communication. Services include technical
engineering services (systems integration, software development,
surveys and installations), training, maintenance, documentation, and
program management. Release date of the DRFP for industry comment is
anticipated 22 Jul 98, and release of the final Request for Proposal
(RFP) is anticipated Oct 98. Vendor comments will be due 30 days after
issuance of the DRFP. All comments shall be submitted to the CECOM
Acquisition Center -- Washington's Q&A Internet site
(http://128.190.157.111). An indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity
(IDIQ) type contract is contemplated. The RFP will be made available
ONLY on the CECOM Business Opportunity internet site
(http://acbop.monmouth.army.mil). Click on the link "CECOM BUSINESS
OPPORTUNITIES" to obtain a listing of RFPs. The AIT II RFP files may be
found sorted by title under the name "AIT II". Telephonic or written
requests for hard copies of this DRFP will not be honored. Interested
parties are encouraged to start reviewing the CECOM Business
Opportunity Internet site on/after 20 Jul 98 for the DRFP.
