58 -- REQUEST FOR COMMENT ON ATIS REPLACE DUE 080398 POC For copy, contact the info office indicated., For additional information contact Pullen.0kd/Pkl-2/[916]643-3571 Request industry comments on the following proposed salient characteristics for the acquisition of a replacement for the AN/GSH-59 Automatic Terminal Information System (ATIS), which is now the CDD-1000. 1) The system shall contain a Main Control Unit (MCU) (FAA Type #10012) and a Remote Control Unit (RCU) (FAA Type #10012/2). The two assemblies shall operate in parallel and have identical functions. Recording, monitoring and continuous on-line modes shall be controlled from either the main assembly or the remote assembly. 2) The system shall be capable of digitally storing a 30-second announcement. The storage device shall not be a disc drive nor a tape mechanism. 3) The system shall be capable of continuously transmitting a recorded announcement to broadcast facilities and telephone lines. Announcements shall repeat automatically at the end of the announcement. 4) Announcements shall be recorded through a push-to- talk, plug-in telephone-like handset (FAA Type #10012/5). There shall be automatic squelch circuitry to mute background noise while recording announcements. 5) A front panel monitor volume control shall be available. 6) The input power shall be 117 VAC +/- 10%, 50-60 Hz. A removable, 6-foot minimum, three-prong, power cord shall be supplied. 7) Battery back-up shall be provided to sustain the recorded announcement during brief power outtages of up to five minutes. An internal automatic battery recharging circuitry shall be incorporated. Rechargeable batteries shall be Nickel- Cadmium type. Batteries shall be provided and be a commercial off-the- shelf type. 8) No Preventive Maintenance shall be required. 9) A "Users Operations and Maintenance Manual" per TM 86-01 shall be provided. [The following apply to the MCU only.] 10) The MCU shall be capable of being mounted in a standard 19-inch Rack. The MCU shall be capable of connecting a minimum of 3 each 600 ohm telephone connections. 11) The MCU shall incorporate exterior terminals for remote connection. 12) The MCU shall be capable of full operation with battery reserve for up to five minutes. The MCU shall have an internal battery charging capability. The MCU shall have a visual alarm when going to battery. The MCU shall have the capability to remove/install batteries while the system is on and operating. [The following apply to the RCU only.] 13) The RCU shall be capable of all recording, monitoring and control functions present on the MCU. 14) The RCU shall be capable of remote operation up to a minimum of 1000 feet with standard shielded cable connections. 15) The RCU shall be capable of being mounted on a panel or console.
