L. Westman, Maria.L.Westman.1@gsfc.nasa.gov. NASA/GSFC plans to issue
a Request for Quotation (RFQ) for 130 each of recording tapes. The
specifications for the tapes are as follows: PHYSICAL PROPERTIES: width
-- 0.998 +/-0.002 inches, length -- 18,000 feet minimum, thickness --
base film 0.460 MIL polyester (nominal), oxide coating -- 0.110 MIL
(nominal), backcoat -- 0.040 MIL (nominal); MAGNETIC PROPERTIES:
coercivity -- HC 990 +/-5%, retentivity -- BR 1050 minimum, squareness
-- .80 minimum; ELECTRICAL PROPERTIES: record drive -- -0.8 to +0.8,
output -- 0.5Mhz -2.0 to +2.0, 1.0 Mhz -2.0 to +2.0, 2.0 Mhz -2.0 to
+2.0, 4.0 Mhz -2.0 to +2.0. These tape properties must be totally
compatible with existing Quantegy products maintained at various NASA
controlled sites where these tapes will be used. This procurement is
being conducted under the Simplified Acquisition Procedures (SAP).
NASA/GSFC intends to purchase the items from Quantegy Inc., 300-3B,
Route 17 South, Lodi, NJ 07644. The Quantegy Model 741 tape is the
onlytape than can be added as a direct replacement and augmentation for
the existing Quantegy tape that is used in the NASA Space Geodesy
Program's Mark IV correlator systems. Substitutions would cause
electrical and mechanical incompatibilties with existing NASA recording
equipment. The Quantegy Model 741 tapes are the only tapes that can be
added to the current distributed library environment that are capable
of handling the recording densities and capabilities needed by the
currently designed recording hardware. The Quantegy tape meets all the
physical, magnetic, and electrical property specifications and is
compatible with the existing Quantegy products. The Government intends
to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12. Interested firms have
15 days from the publication of this synopsis to submit in writing to
the identified point of contact, their qualifications/capabilities.
Such qualifications/capabilities will be used solely for the purpose of
determining whether or not to conduct this procurement ona competitive
basis. Responses received after the 15 days or without the required
information will be considered nonresponsive to the synopsis and will
not be considered. A determination by the Government to not compete
this proposed effort on a full and open competitive basis, based upon
responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the
Government. Oral communications are not acceptable in response to this
notice. All responsible sources may submit an offer which shall be
considered by the agency. An Ombudsman has been appointed. See Internet
