SOURCES SOUGHT -- In support of the United States Department of Energy's (DOE) Office of Fuels Development, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) is investigating the conversion of lignocelluloseic biomass to ethanol. Process modeling at NREL has determined that the cost of cellulase enzyme is a key hurdle to overcome in the commercialization of bioethanol processes in the U.S. DOE and NREL are soliciting interest from professionals in the field of enzymatic biomass conversion to join a discussion group designed to consider the needs of U.S. bioethanol industry regarding cellulase cost reduction. Individuals who respond to this NOTICE OF INTEREST should have one or more of the following capabilities, experience, or skills: 1) current and working knowledge of the bioethanol production industry, 2) current and working knowledge of the corn and corn by-products utilization industries, 3) current experience in commercial-scale cellulase production, 4) extensive knowledge of cellulase structureand engineering principles, 5) detailed knowledge of "T. reesei" strain improvement history and practices. Members chosen for service will be expected to attend at least two 1-day meetings held in Golden, Colorado from August 1, 1998 to June 30, 1999.
