The U.S. Geological Survey has a requirement for four (4) Borehole Volumetric Strainmeters, with an option for additional quantities. Specifications of the instruments are: active length, 10 feet; total length, 12 feet; outside diameter, 2.5 inches; wall thickness, 0.125 inches; strain range, 10E-11 to 10E-2; frequency response, from constant strain (DC) -- 10E-3 HZ; built-in temperature sensor, resolution 10E-4 C; temperature response; less than 10E-4/degrees C. The electronics of the instruments shall be: input power, 12 V at 200 mA; output voltage, unity gain range +/-5V for primary DT; electronic to include regulated power supply, software controlled valve dual-valve opening system; power source for dual-differential transformers (DT) power; output voltage, unity gain range +/-5V for secondary DT. Each instrument to include 1250 feet of water blocked, 14 conductor cable terminated in dilatometer cable head (Kintec or equivalent). Cable to be color marked at 100 feet intervals.
