Research Laboratory, Contracts Management Branch, PO Box 18070,
Cochrans Mill Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15236-0070 A -- PERSON WEARABLE END OF SHIFT/CONTINUOUS DUST MONITOR FOR
UNDERGROUND MINES SOL 200-98-8004(P) DUE 083198 POC Geraldine M.
Puskar, Contracting Specialist (412)892-6434; Joseph A. Gilchrist,
Contracting Officer (412)892-6428 The Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention contemplates awarding a contract to design, build, and test
a prototype Person Wearable End-of-Shift Continuous Respirable Dust
Monitor (PESCRDM) for underground mines. The PESCRDM will be capable of
providing a full shift time weighted average dust mass concentration
reading within 15 minutes after the end-of-shift and/or displaying
continuously measured respirable dust exposure information in real-time
during the shift and storing it for later retrieval. The following
three phases will be required to complete the work: Phase 1 -- Design
and construct two research proof-of-concept prototype PESCRDMs; Phase
2 -- Build two prototypes and field test for operation in the
end-of-shift mode; Phase 3 -- Build two prototypes that can operate in
either the end-of-shift or continuous monitoring mode. All requests
for proposals should reference RFP No. 200-98-8004(P) which will be
available o/a July 20, 1998. Posted 06/26/98 (0177) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0015 19980630\A-0015.SOL)
