COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF JUNE 30,1998 PSA#2127SALTON SEA RESTORATION PROJECT -- RFP TO CONDUCT ENVIRONMENTAL
RECONNAISSANCE OF SALTON SEA The Salton Sea Feasibility Study is being
undertaken as a potential Federal action, and as such, must comply
with the requirements of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).
The project must also comply with the California Environmental Quality
Act (CEQA) requirements. The Salton Sea Research Management Committee
has a need to conduct an environmental reconnaissance of the Salton Sea
as part of the NEPA/CEQA process for the Salton Sea Restoration
Project. The Request for Proposals (RFP) is intended to elicit
proposals to rapidly acquire sufficient biological and environmental
information in specified areas for the proper biological/environmental
description of the Sea and adjacent habitats. Because of the extremely
short time line, the performance of these reconnaissance studies will
be closely monitored. On July 8, 1998, a pre-submittal workshop will be
held in Ontario, California at the Ontario Red Lion Hotel, Strawberry
Peak Room, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. for the purpose of answering general
questions about the RFP. Potential submitters are encouraged to submit
questions in advance of the workshop. Questions may be submitted in
writing to Tom Kirk, Executive Director, Salton Sea Authority, 78-035
Calle Estado, La Quinta, CA 92253 after July 3, 1998, or by FAX to
(760)863-7943 anytime. Written questions will be accepted at the
workshop and all questions received before and at the workshop will be
addressed. A record of the workshop will be posted on the Salton Sea
Restoration Project site @ http://www.lc.usbr.gov. Proposals shall be
submitted in the format outlined in the RFP by mail postmarked no later
than July 31, 1998, to: Dr. John Elder, Chair/Science Coordinator,
Salton Sea Science Subcommittee, U.S. Geological Survey, 8505 Research
