The USDA, Forest Service, Daniel Boone National Forest is looking for contractors interested in working on an abandoned coal mine reclamation project in southeastern Kentucky. The Wildcat Branch Mine Reclamation Project #4 is located approximately 20 miles east of the city of Somerset, Kentucky near the community of Mt. Victory, Kentucky. This project will involve reclamation of about five acres of inadequately vegetated mine bench, outslope and coal refuse; burial of acid/toxic mine waste; removal of a collapsed wooden tipple/load-out structure; construction of an anaerobic lagoon, lined with plastic and connected to an anoxic limestone trench; construction of an anoxic limestone trench/underdrain; and construction of three ponds, one serving as a clean water source, one a settling basin, and one as an aerobic wetland. This project will include reconditioning of an old woods road for access to the site; clearing, grubbing and slash treatment on about 3.5 acres; and revegetation of the disturbed areas.Construction of the lagoon, limestone trench and three ponds will require approximately 5,000 cubic yards of excavation and embankment construction. Approximately 850 cubic yards of crushed stone and 528 feet of perforated and non-perforated PVC pipe will also be needed. A number of pieces of heavy construction equipment will be needed for this project, including, but not limited to, two dump trucks, a crawler tractor, a trackhoe, and a sheepefoot roller. The use of a scraper would expedite this project. This project has an estimated cost of between $25,000.00 and $100,000.00.
