SOL 605-A80311 DUE 071098 POC Teri Deihl The VA VISN 22 Network Business Center, VA Loma Linda, intends to negotiate a commercial (FAR Part 12) sole source contract with Beckman Instruments, Inc., Fullerton, CA 92634 under the authority of FAR 6.302-1. Only one responsible source and no other supplies or services will satisfy agency requirements. A justification for other than full and open competition is being prepared in support of this acquisition. Beckman manufactures its ultracentrifuges and markets them exclusively through its own sales organization. No other manufacturer, company or distributor is able to provide the Beckman Model LE-80K, which is used, for musculoskeletal research. The Optima LE-80K preparative ultracentrifuge features a frequency-controlled vacuum-encased induction drive system for ultra-smooth operation and efficient acceleration and deceleration of rotors. The drive is air-cooled (requires no freon or other liquid refrigerants) and imbalance-tolerant. Drive warranty is 10 years. The ultracentrifuge provides digitalcontrol via touch sensitive keys; digital displays; choice of slow start and standard acceleration, three deceleration options; built-in integrator; thermo-electric cooling and heating modules (requires no freon or other liquid refrigerants). Price includes installation, operator instruction, and one-year preventive maintenance and emergency service. The Optima LE-80K ultracentrifuge is safety-rated R, allowing use of the full line of Beckman fixed angle, swinging bucket, NVT near vertical, and vertical rotors. To assure full system quality, the Beckman Optima LE-80K ultracentrifuge has been manufactured in an ISO 9001 registered facility. It has been designed and tested to meet the standards and regulations (only when used with Beckman rotors) of CE marking, IMEC as certified by NSAI, UL and CSA. The proposed contract action is for only one source. Interested persons may identify their interest and capability to respond to the requirement or submit a proposal. This notice is not a request for competitive proposals. All proposals received by 4:00 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time, July 9, 1998, will be considered by the Government. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed contract based on responses to this notice is solely with the discretion of the Government.
