L. Pomraning (410) 605-7156 Contractor shall provide all labor,
materials, and equipment to make improvements to three (3) cooling
towers -- (two (2) two-cell and one (1) one-cell) in accordance with
all terms, conditions, specs, and drawings of IFB 512(B)-66-98. The
work includes, but is not limited to: (1) Replace PVC wet decks and
supports in heat transfer sections of three cooling towers for two
850-ton and one 500-ton Trane Centravac chillers; (2) Replace depressed
sump and step panels with galvanized panels further protected with
polyurethane membranes: 5-cell total; (3) Furnish and install one
new/additional sump box in each tower for use as a bypass connection:
three total; (4) Furnish and install a probe type electric water level
control system to each tower: three total. Install a 1-1/2 inch slow
acting solenoid valve in each two-cell tower's make-up line and a one
inch solenoid valve in the make-up of the single cell tower. Also
furnish and install all heat tape, insulation, power and control wiring
for these systems; (5) Furnish and install one 15 hp Pony motor e/w
additional supports and drives to the single cell tower. Weld new motor
base supports to existing equipment to accommodate new motor base,
motor, aluminum sheaves and power band. Furnish and install
starter/wiring for new pony motor; (6) Furnish and install new ten inch
bypass piping for the single cell tower and twelve inch bypass piping
for the two cell towers along with all fittings, insulation and
three-way control valves per VA furnished drawings and specifications.
All requests for bid package MUST be in writing to the attention of
the Contracting Officer (90C), VA Maryland Health Care System. 10 North
Greene Street, Baltimore, MD 21201. No telephonic or fax requests will
be honored. Requests must be accompanied by a $50.00 refundable bid
deposit in the form of a certified check, money order, or cashier's
check payable to the Department of Veterans Affairs. Return of the
deposit is contingent upon return of the bid package within ten
calendar days of the bid opening. This acquisition is unrestricted and
is subject to the availability of funds. Construction range is
betrween $100,000 and $250,000. The Standard Industrial Classification
(SIC) code is 1799, Special Trade Contractors, N.E.C. Size standard is
$7.0 million. Cooling towers are located at 10 North Greene Street,
Baltimore, MD. A site visit is scheduled for July 28th at 10 am,
Eastern Standard Time. Contractor must provide references to verify
cooling tower experience. Bid opening date is August 14, 1998. Posted
