The National Institute of Standards and Technology Joint Institute of Laboratory Atmospherics (JILA) has a requirement for a grating stabilized laser diode pumping a semiconductor amplifier stage. 500mW of single frequency light 12nm continuously tunable with 780nm center wavelength, instantaneous line width less than 200kHz, long-term line width less than 5mHz, integrated driver and control electronics with analog and digital (GPIB) inputs and outputs, which requires a fine tuning rate of 5GHz/msec. The output beam must be collimated nearly circular with a spot size of 2mm. The equipment must be compact and self-contained and does not require a pump or seed laser.
