Facsimile: (404)842-6727 The Government anticipates award of a
noncompetitive contract to Teryl Frey, PhD, Department of Biology,
Georgia State University, Atlanta, Georgia. Contract tasks consist of
isolating rubella virus from clinical specimens from persons with
serologic confirmed rubella or infants born with CRS. Nasopharyngeal
and urine specimens for rubella virus isolation will be collected and
rubella virus isolation will be performed using standard viral
isolation procedures. An estimated 30-50 virus specimens are expected
to be collected and forwarded to the contractor during a 12-month
period. For rubella virus isolated from clinical specimens and rubella
viral strains previously isolated: 1) The rubella virus will be
amplified in cell culture and RNA will then be extracted. Polymerase
Chain Reaction (PCR) will be performed and nucleotide sequences
determined and 2) Nucleotide sequences will be compared with vaccine
strains and wild type strains from various geographic locations.
Contract term is 12 months from dateof award. Equipment required for
this project includes biosafety cabinet for biocontainment Level P2,
-70 C freezer space for long term specimen storage, PCR machine for DNA
amplification and sequencing, pentium computer dedicated to sequence
analysis. All interested parties may submit qualifications and
experience information including curriculum vitae for the personnel who
will be performing this work, past performance data including the size,
complexity and scope of each contract or project performed which is the
same or similar in nature to this project; demonstrated facilities
capability to include equipment required, and laboratory certification
as Level P2 containment laboratory. Evaluation criteria will include
1) Understanding the Problem; 2) Methodology and Approach; 3)
Feasibility; 4) Personnel; 5) Facilities. Past performance will be used
as a significant factor in determining the award of the contract. All
interested parties must submit a capability statement by not later than
