COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF JULY 8,1998 PSA#2132Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Procurement & Materiel, L-650,
P.O. Box 5012, Livermore, CA 94551 60 -- FIBER OPTICS MATERIALS, COMPONENTS, ASSEMBLIES & ACCESSORIES POC
Fred Sass, Contract Administrator, (925) 422-9285 E-MAIL: Click here to
contact the contract administrator via, sass1@llnl.gov. The University
of California, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, seeks sources
to build and integrate complete National Ignition Facility (NIF)
Preamplifier (PAM) modules from existing drawings ("build to print"),
verify that the assembled unit performs as designed and specified, and
ship the assembled unit to LLNL for final alignment and acceptance
prior to being installed in the NIF facility. High-risk optics would be
furnished by LLNL to the contractor. Prospective sources should have
the following resources and/or expertise, or the capability to
outsource the following: Integrating a large assembly of optical,
mechanical, and electrical hardware, and in meeting strict deadlines;
Stainless steel fabrication (cutting, welding, drilling) and
incorporating optical breadboards, and structure assembly; Precision
cleaning of metal assemblies; High voltage and pulsed power; Machine
shop capabilities for optical mount and mount interface hardware;
Assembling precision optomechanical packages; Optics fabrication,
testing, and handling; Optical alignment at 1 micron wavelength;
Electrical timing to sub-nanosecond; Assembly and testing of custom 19"
electronic chassis, including cabling; Experience with cable and pipe
routing for high reliability connections in a tightly packaged
structure; Transport of precision assemblies from the assembly location
to the customer. LLNL is currently designing for the first prototype
unit and will begin assembly of the second unit in October 1998. We
plan on purchasing components at the highest practical level of
integration for the second prototype. We plan to award two (2)
cost-plus-fixed-fee awards to two (2) different contractors in the fall
of 1999. Those successful contractors will be expected to return a
complete PAM unit along with a quote for 48 production units to be
delivered between May 2001 and July 2002. Interested firms should
respond with a description of qualifications with respect to the
foregoing or related fields. The Small Business size standard
applicable to the proposed acquisition is 500 employees. Firms
qualifying as a Small Business with respect to this standard should so
state. Responses are required on or before July 31, 1998. Firms
responding to this announcement which fail to provide the required
information will not be considered for inclusion into any resulting
source list. Facsimile and telephone responses will not be accepted.
This notice is to assist the University in determining the potential
