A. Foley, teresa.foley@msfc.nasa.gov. NASA/MSFC plans to issue a
Request for Quotation (RFQ) for High Energy Picosecond Mode-locked Nd
YAG Laser. Item No. 1 a. The system shall include a dye cell
passive/acousto-optic active mode-locker combination with different
pulse durations depending on the dye. b. At 40 picoseconds, the energy
shall be at least 75 milliJoules per pulse for 1064 nanometers and at
least 35 milliJoules per pulse for 532 nanometers. At 25 picoseconds
the energy shall be at least 50 milliJoules per pulse for 1064
nanometers and at least 25 milliJoules per pulse for 532 nanometers. c.
The repetition rate shall be 10 Hertz. d. The stability shall be less
than 5 % root mean squared deviation at 1064 nanometers and less than
7 % root mean squared at 532 nanometers. e. The beam divergence shall
be less than 0.4 milliradians and the beam diameter shall be less than
9.5 millimeters. f. The Signal to Noise Ratio shall be at least 40:1
at 1064 nanometers and 250:1 at 532 nanometers. g. The system shall
employ an intracavity Pockels cell cavity dumper. h. The resonator
shall employ intracavity spatial filtering and apodization to ensure a
spatially smooth near diffraction limited Gaussian profile. i. The
system shall include a sealed second harmonic generation unit and
wavelength separation package to produce 532 nanometer output pulses
with better than 50 % conversion efficiency. The harmonic generation
crystals shall be thermostated. j. The pointing stability and long term
drift shall be of high quality to provide compatability with an optical
parametric oscillator which may be added in the future. k. Power supply
must include Rack Mountable Control Unit, Power Supply, Capacitor Bank,
and Cooling Unit. l. Lamps shall be easily removed and maintained. m.
System must include 2 year warranty, 90 days on the optics and
flashlamps, and full installation and training. Item No. 2 Second
harmonic generation unit Item No. 3 Wave length separation package for
second harmonic output This procurement is being conducted under the
Simplified Acquisition Procedures (SAP). NASA/MSFC intends to purchase
the items from Continuum, 3150 Central Expressway, Santa Clara, CA
95051. This sole source is based on system compatibility The Government
intends to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12. Interested
firms have until July 10, 1998, to submit in writing to the identified
