COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF JULY 9,1998 PSA#2133R -- UNIQUE CERAMIC CROSS FLOW FILTERS DESC: The U.S. Department of
Energy's Federal Energy Technology Center (FETC), Pittsburgh, PA
intends to award a fixed priced purchase order to Blasch Precision
Ceramics, Albany, NY to purchase 12 improved, monolithic cross flow
filters for future testing at FETC. Blasch developed and tested a
unique monolithic cross flow filter. The results of testing were that
the filter cracked during testing. As a result, an improved design is
needed. Blasch shall make required improvements to the previous design,
and supply 12 filter elements for testing to FETC. This purchase order
is being issued to Blasch Precision Ceramics because they were awarded
phase I SBIR project in 8/94 and a Phase II SBIR project in 6/95 to
develop and test a monolithic cross flow filter. Blasch Precision
Ceramics is the only known source of monolithic cross flow filters
suitable for PFBC applications. Blasch Precision Ceramics manufactures
the filters using an injection molding process that is unique in the
(oxide) ceramics processingindustry. This request is considered to be
sole sourced to Blasch Precision Ceramics. Therefore, no solicitation
will result from this announcement. This award shall be made using
simplified acquisition procedures. Request for information should be
