R -- UNIQUE CERAMIC CROSS FLOW FILTERS DESC: The U.S. Department of Energy's Federal Energy Technology Center (FETC), Pittsburgh, PA intends to award a fixed priced purchase order to Blasch Precision Ceramics, Albany, NY to purchase 12 improved, monolithic cross flow filters for future testing at FETC. Blasch developed and tested a unique monolithic cross flow filter. The results of testing were that the filter cracked during testing. As a result, an improved design is needed. Blasch shall make required improvements to the previous design, and supply 12 filter elements for testing to FETC. This purchase order is being issued to Blasch Precision Ceramics because they were awarded phase I SBIR project in 8/94 and a Phase II SBIR project in 6/95 to develop and test a monolithic cross flow filter. Blasch Precision Ceramics is the only known source of monolithic cross flow filters suitable for PFBC applications. Blasch Precision Ceramics manufactures the filters using an injection molding process that is unique in the (oxide) ceramics processingindustry. This request is considered to be sole sourced to Blasch Precision Ceramics. Therefore, no solicitation will result from this announcement. This award shall be made using simplified acquisition procedures. Request for information should be addressed to Mr. Robert L. Mohn, FAX 412-892-6216. E-MAIL: mohn@fetc.doe.gov, mohn@fetc.doe.gov.
