Service Institute (FSI) seeks the services of a contractor to design
and deliver the Statistics segment of the Foreign Service Economic and
Commercial Studies Program. The design of this course shall include
fifteen classroom sessions in statistics that will include several
computer-based exercises to provide supplemental real world
applications of the material covered in the course. The Statistics
course is the first of a two-part sequence in statistics and
econometrics. The students in the program are typically mid-career
Foreign Service Officers with bachelors and masters degrees in fields
other than economics. The goal of the course is to give the students an
awareness of the mathematical foundation of descriptive and inferential
statistics, but to emphasize the students practical application of the
statistical techniques covered. This action is reserved for small
