Furnish all labor, equipment, materials, and supervision necessary to accomplish watershed restoration of 0.6 miles of the A-9-7-1 North road and associated hillslope areas above and below the A-9-7-1 in the McArthur Creek watershed at Redwood National Park, approximately four miles south of the town of Orick, Humboldt County, CA. The project includes excavating road fill from stream channels, pulling back side-cast road fill, decompacting roads, retrieving and burying debris found at the site from other activities; and restoring the original configuration of the land (ridges, stream valleys and swales) along the road corridors and spreading the topsoil, forest duff and organic matter encountered during excavations on the finished surfaces. The nature of the work generally requires bulldozers to push fill up steep slopes and shape/finish slopes while side hilling; and excavators to excavate fill and shape/finish slopes while sitting on steep slopes. The equipment will need to be used on steep terrain and in difficult working conditions. Access to some work sites, or portions of work sites, will require operator skill and dexterity to minimize access impacts over steep irregular ground. The size of excavations associated with this work can range from less than one hundred cubic yards to several thousand cubic yards in volume. Heavy equipment work is typically limited to 50-55 hours per week with at least two days off in any two week period, and will only be permitted between sunrise and sunset. It is expected that work will start approximately September 16, 1998,requiring completion within 45 days thereafter. The estimated price range is between $100,000 and $250,000.
