58 -- GPS/DIFFERENTIAL CORRECTION RECEIVER SYSTEM SOL M67854-98-R-2140 DUE 072898 POC Peggy Smith, 703-784-5822 x252; fax 703-784-5826 The Marine Corps Systems Command intends to negotiate a sole source, commercial item contract with Garmin International Inc. of Olath, Kansas. The contractor will be responsible for providing a Garmin GPS/Differential Correction Receiver System which consists of the following equipment: 120/EA Garmin GPS Model 12XL (P/N 010-00138-00), 120/EA Garmin GBR 21 Differential Beacon Receiver (P/N 010-0068-00), and 120/EA Garmin Power Cable (P/N 010-10082-00). The system is considered a commercial type item; therefore it is anticipated that simplified acquisition procedures will be utilized. Through an independent study conducted by SRI International to perform a market survey on GPS based positioning equipment, the Garmin GPS/Differential Correction Receiver was identified by the Marine Corps Warfighting Laboratory as the only viable system that provides high position accuracy and significantly reduced data access time which limits a Marine's exposure to counter-fire. No RFP is available for competitive bidding; however, interested parties may submit a statement of capability for satisfying this requirement, to include descriptive literature and pricing, within 15 days of this announcement to the contact person listed above. This announcement is not a request for competitive proposals, however, all proposals received by the date identified above will be considered by the Government. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed requirement based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government.
