66 -- WATER CONSOLE REAL TIME PARTICLE COUNTER DUE 120198 POC Peter Mazurkivich, Technical POC, Phone (407)861-3808, Fax (407)861-3036, Email peter.mazurkivich-1@ksc.nasa.gov WEB: Click here for the latest information about this notice, http://nais.nasa.gov/EPS/KSC/date.html#PK-G. E-MAIL: Peter Mazurkivich, peter.mazurkivich-1@ksc.nasa.gov. The Kennedy Space Center is looking for sources that can provide the following: Industry Product Needed: A real time particle counter, modular in construction, using the latest technology to measure and analyze the particulate matter in the water loop during the polishing operation of the Orbiter Liquid Cooled Garment (LCG) Water Loops. The LCG Water Polishing Console is used to remove particulate from each of the liquid cooled garment lines in the Orbiter LCG water loops and heat exchanger up to the Space Craft Umbilical (SCU) post mission. During processing, the current filter holder/analysis pad must be removed from the console and sent to the Vehicle Assembly Building for analysis to verify paticulate levels are acceptable prior to completion of the polishing task. This process is time consuming (approx. 80 hours to run) and has the potential for introducing contamination during the removal and re-installation of the filter pads. Real time particle counters installed in the new units will reduce processing time and eliminate the need for filter removal. Project Objectives: Reduce the Orbiter Processing Facility (OPF) flow time by using a real-time particle counter and decrease the possibility of introducing contamination (hence a false cleanliness level) by having a closed loop system. 2. PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS: Operational: The limited availability of space needs to be considered in the size of the particle counter. The real-time particle counter must be removable for calibration to verify accuracy with a known standard. No special hazard proofing required. Performance: Cleanliness Level Requirement: 100 per KSC-C-123, Flow Rate: 120 lb/hr minimum, Power: 110 VAC. Technical: Prior to Biocide addition: Conductivity 3.3x10(exp-6)ohm(exp-1)cm(exp-1), pH 6-7.5, Surface tension 71.72 dynes per cm (min), Total solids 1mg/100 ml. After Biocide addition: Iodine 3-5 ppm by wt. Particulate Size: <50 microns -- unlimited, 50-100 microns -- 47, 100-150 microns -- 5, >150 microns -- 0 metallic,150-750 microns (non-metallic) -- 1, >750 microns (non-metallic) -- 0. 3. INFORMATION TRANSFER: Send information to mail code: PK-G or mail code USK-235, Kennedy Space Center, FL 32899 or e-mail the information to peter.mazurkivich-1@ksc.nasa.gov or william.shearer-1@ksc.nasa.gov Posted 07/14/98 (D-SN223179).
