Brenda Goodwin, 304/285-5882/Contracting Officer, Rex S. Wolfe,
304/285-5883 The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health
(NIOSH) in Morgantown, WV plans to participate in a Society of
Automotive Engineers (SAE) Cooperative Research Program. The project is
know as CAESAR (Civilian American and European Surface Anthropometry
Resource). NIOSH has a requirement to acquire existing anthropometric
data sets which more closely represent the general US. working
population than those currently being used. These data sets represent
a large civilian population sample, which is necessary for NIOSH to
continue ergonomic research for the prevention of traumatic injuries.
Studies have shown that human stature has changed significantly since
existing data was collected. Deliverables for this project include
electronic 3-D scans, 3-D landmarks, univariate measurements,
demographic data, data extraction tool, and documentation summaries,.
The only known study of this kind was initiated by the SAE. If there
are other sources capable of providing a current anthropometric data
base ofthis type representing the U.S. Civilian population, they are
invited to submit appropriate documentation, literature and references
to Brenda L. Goodwin, Reference: RQ98-028, DHHS, PHS, CDC, NIOSH,
