U.S. Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command is contemplating the
sale of operational army watercraft displaced as a result of force
modernization programs. DESC: Dept of Defense has authorized the Army
to sell selected fully operational equipment displaced as a result of
force modernization programs. The US Army Tank-automotive and Armaments
Command is initiating a test program with the sale of Army
Transportation Corps watercraft. These crafts are used for harbor
operations, river and coastal tows, cargo transport, over-the-shore
landing, and port construction-missions that industry performs today.
The unique aspect of this sale program is that almost all of these
crafts will be sold in turnkey operational conditions. Tugboats,
floating machine shops, barge derricks, cargo barges and various sizes
and types of landing craft will be closed up in the same condition as
being used by active Army and Reserve components. At time of sale most
will include technical and other service and parts manuals, any many
will include spare parts, pots, pans and dishes and other items which
will enable the winning buyer to walk onboard with a crew and put the
vessel into immediate use. These crafts, presently located on both the
East and West coasts, have been crewed by fully licensed operators and
have been serviced and maintained through planned maintenance programs.
A system of routine dry-docking at commercial shipyards and
on-condition cyclic maintenance in accordance with US Coast Guard
maritime standards has contributed to the current good condition of
these vessels. Many of the vessels have current valid load line
certificates in place. Specific announcement will be made as crafts are
released for sale. Announcements will include information about
configuration, condition, viewing and inspection dates and bidding
procedures. Several vessels including tugboats and barge derricks, may
be released as early as this fall. In addition, three-man inflatable
boats may be offered for sale as part of this test program. If you are
interested in this program and want to be included on the bidders list
currently being developed, send your name, address, telephone and fax
number, and email address either by email to mtcmichr@ix.netcom.com, by
