The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has a requirement for a Confocal Optical Canning System. Capabilities shall include the following: Confocal optical scanning system of the dual disk type with individual micro lenses on the excitation disk to match each aperture of the imaging disk and shall achieve 40-60% transmission of fluorescence excitation illumination. This Confocal optical scanning system shall function with both (I) up-right fixed stage and "infinite tube length" optics; and (ii) inverted microscope stands fixed stage and "infinite tube length" optics microscope when equipped for incident or epi-fluorescent illumination. The computer system (Pentium class or equal/better, 266MHz clock speed with greater than 96 MB RAM, 650 optical PD drive, Windows 95) and integrated control software provided with the Confocal optical scanning system shall use menus for (a) full digital camera control for image acquisition and analysis for multiple fluorescent probe overlays, Z- axis control and 3D rendering of multiple probed at least 12 bit resolution; (b) temporal analysis montaging, 3D plots including full ratiometric capability for image capture at different wavelengths. Image deconvolution software is provided to further refine the image. Also having the salient characteristics as specified in the solicitation.
