361, Crane, IN 47522-5001 12 -- SOURCES SOUGHT FOR LASER DESIGNATORS COMPATIBLE WITH NATO BAND
I & II LASER GUIDED MUNITIONS SOL N00164-98-R-0129 DUE 080398 POC
Contact Ms. Kathy King, 812-854-3734, fax 812-854-3465/Ms. D. A. Frick,
Contracting Officer WEB: Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division's
homepage, www.crane.navy.mil. The Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC),
Crane Division is issuing a Sources Sought Announcement for
information pertaining to (1) current small, lightweight
Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) Laser Designators and (2) R&D concepts
addressing the size/weight/power reductions for future Laser
Designators. The requirement for a small, lightweight laser designator
exists for the tactical class of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). The
Laser Designators must be compatible with NATO Band I & II laser
guided munitions and capable of remote operation. Respondents, at a
minimum, should provided with the following data: system
name/nomenclature, system manufacturer (if different than responding or
marketing company), size, weight, power consumption, laser power
output, beam divergence, cooling requirements, maintenance
requirements, built in test capability, remote control operation
capability, over-temperature protection circuitry, duty cycle,
retention of laser beam alignment, and Rough Order of Magnitude (ROM)
pricing data. Responses of an R&D nature shall detail concepts of
development, performance characteristics and trade-offs (if any),
risks, risk reduction measures (if any), projected physical dimensions,
projected power consumption, projected production feasibility. Any
proposed system must be suitable, with respect to size and cost, for
UAV applications. Concepts should not be proposed that are unable to be
carried by a small UAV in a stabilized turret system. Any proposed
prototype hardware should be designed in a manner that makes it
suitable for remote operation and rapid fleet experimentation.
Appropriate proposed systems might be selected for integration into a
UAV system for operational experimentation. PROCESS: Naval Surface
Warfare Center, Crane Division will review responses for further
exploration. Proposals that do not address identified technology areas
will not be reviewed. The response should also indicate technical and
contracting points of contact, the size of the business and whether it
is a dealer or manufacturer of the item. All options and assumptions
shall be clearly identified and defined. This request for information
in no way implies either implicitly or explicitly that respondents will
be compensated in any way by the Government for information or
materials provided. All information provided becomes U.S. Navy property
and will not be returned. All proprietary or classified information
will be treated appropriately. Please submit any applicable product
literature, drawings, brochures, videotapes, or related materials on or
before 3 August 1998. It is desired, but not required, for the
contractor to present a technical briefing on a white paper at NSWC
Crane Division. Technical briefings should always follow the formal
submission of a white paper. The Government is not liable for any costs
associated with this brief. All correspondence should be addressed to
