"jsliney@natick-amed02.army.mil" (508) 233-5175 (Site Code DAAN02) The
US Army Soldier System is conducting a market survey to identify
manufacturing companies with the capability to design, prototype, tool,
and manufacture portable plastic field desks. Presently the Army has a
wooden field desk defined by MIL-D-10821 which is designed for easy
storage and transport, however the manufacturing technology and
materials of construction need to be upgraded to the present
state-of-the-art. When empty the desk has a weight of 75 pounds and in
the stored configuration is 15 inches deep, 23 inches high and 26
inches wide. When set up for field operations the desk shall have a
working surface of 23 x 26 and 26 x 15 inches. All handles, latches and
hinges shall be recessed to prevent damage during shipping and storage.
The body of the desk shall house drawers for storage of standard and
legal file folders, and a smaller drawer which locks. These drawers
shall be protected from water damage during shipment. Available
commercial items which can withstand field transport and use are
possible substitutes if they have most of the attributes listed.
